Farm Hand - Part-time Hiring for 6- 8 shifts per week. Morning shift starts at 6 AM. The afternoon shift begins at 4 PM.
We typically milk between 18 and 20 cows, raise pigs, and care for a small herd of beef cattle. We will be adding chickens in the Spring of 2027. We also grow our own non-GMO alfalfa, hay, cattle corn, and have recently expanded into growing produce (garlic, potatoes, sweet corn, sweet potatoes). This is a great opportunity to learn about regenerative farming, support local agriculture, and help a 5th-generation family farm expand. This position requires a very dependable person, as the animals will count on you for feeding, milking, and other care, including some weekends and holidays. Must be able to work independently, learn on the job, and be passionate about providing our community with natural, healthy food choices. Experience milking and/or working with farm animals is preferred, but we will train the right candidate.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Milking Cows and bringing them into the barn before milking
- Cleaning the dairy barn, milking parlor, milk room, and tank
- Feeding and bedding dairy cows, calves, and pigs
- Assist with births, calf feeding & care as needed
- Basic maintenance and cleaning of the dairy barn, including manure removal
- Must pay attention to detail, be able to follow strict cleanliness regulations
- Must be willing to get dirty, be patient & kind to our animals, and work with a joyful heart, as the energy our animals experience is important to us.
- At times, other tasks will be required, such as cleaning, filling milk jugs for the store, mowing the grass, and doing some light landscape maintenance.
There is zero tolerance for smoking on the farm. Children and pets are not allowed to join you at work.
Starting pay is based on experience. Training starts at $17/hour. Once trained and the candidate can work independently, the pay rate will be $18/hour. This typically takes 6-10 shifts depending on previous experience. If you are already experienced, your pay rate will reflect that. At nine months, candidates will receive a review and the opportunity for another raise. The right candidate can make $20/hour.
